About Reactions

How are the reactions organized?

Our library covers the essential reactions every organic chemist should know. You can browse them by functional group using the categories grid, or explore the full list. Looking for something specific? Use the search bar to find a reaction by its name or keywords (e.g., "oxidation", "Markovnikov", "cross-coupling").

Can I save my favorite reactions?

Yes! On any reaction page, click the "Save" button (bookmark icon) located in the top-right action menu. The reaction will be added to your Favorites category, allowing you to quickly access it later for revision.

Can I print or download a reaction?

Absolutely. ChemApp has been specifically optimized for printing. Click the "PDF" button in the top-right action menu of any reaction page to generate a clean, distraction-free document perfect for your study binders.

I found an error or a missing reaction!

ChemApp is an evolving project. If you spot a mistake in a mechanism or think a crucial reaction is missing from our database, please let us know via the Contact page. We review all suggestions to keep the lab up to date!

About Flashcards

How do flashcards work?

Each card features a question on the front (such as a reagent, a missing product, or a reaction name). Once you've worked out the answer, tap the card to flip it and reveal the solution.

If you got it right, click "Nailed it!" - the card will be marked as mastered and removed from the current deck. If you made a mistake, click "To the lab!" - the card will be sent to your personal revision list (The Lab) so you can review the detailed mechanism later.

What is "The Lab"?

The Lab is your personal revision workspace. Every time you miss a flashcard and click "To the lab!", or when you answer a question incorrectly during a Quiz, the corresponding reaction is automatically added to this list. You can access The Lab from the main Flashcards menu to review the detailed mechanisms of the reactions you struggle with.

Can I create a custom flashcard set?

Yes! In the Flashcards menu, click on "Personal set". You can select multiple categories and/or individual reactions to combine them into a single, custom revision deck tailored to your current study needs.

What is "God Mode"?

Ready for a real challenge? God Mode is the ultimate test where absolutely every flashcard from the database is shuffled at random into a massive deck. It’s the perfect way to prepare for final exams!

About Quiz

How does the scoring system work?

ChemApp quizzes use a Time Attack system. In standard modes (Beginner, Intermediate, Expert), you have 2.5 minutes to answer 20 questions. Time rewards and penalties scale with difficulty: +2s/-2s in Beginner, +5s/-5s in Intermediate, and +10s/-10s in Expert!

What makes "God Mode Meltdown" different?

While standard modes allow you to make mistakes (at the cost of time penalties), God Mode Meltdown is a Sudden Death survival mode featuring 30 expert-level questions with 3 minutes on the clock. Every correct answer adds a +10 seconds bonus, but a single mistake instantly ends the game. Survive as long as you can!

How does the Leaderboard work?

At the end of a quiz, if your score is greater than zero, you can enter your nickname to submit your performance. The Global Leaderboard displays the Top 10 players of the current month for each category.

Scores are reset on the first day of every month, but the absolute best player in the "God Mode Meltdown" category is immortalized in the Hall of Fame for an entire year!

Can I print a quiz for my students or friends?

Yes! Instructors and study groups love this feature. On any Quiz category page (before starting the game), click the "PDF" button in the top-right action menu. ChemApp will automatically generate a random, printable multiple-choice worksheet along with an Answer Key on the final page!

About Settings & Privacy

Do I need to create an account?

No! ChemApp respects your privacy and works without any user accounts. All your progress (Favorites, Flashcard mastery, The Lab, Quiz high scores) is stored locally directly in your browser.

Will I lose my data if I change devices?

Because your data is stored in your current browser, it will not automatically sync if you switch to a different phone or computer, or if you clear your browser's cache. The quickest way to bring it along is Sync Devices: generate a temporary code on one device and enter it on the other. For a backup you can keep long-term, use Download/Restore instead to export your progress as a file. Both tools are available on the Settings page.

How does Sync Devices work?

On the device that has your progress, go to the Settings page and click "Get Sync Code" to generate a temporary 8-digit code. On your other device, open Settings and enter that code under "Enter Code" to receive your progress instantly.

The code is valid for 15 minutes and can only be used once - no account is created, and nothing is stored beyond that window.

How can I reset my progress?

You can reset your progress at any time. To reset a specific flashcard category or a quiz high score, use the "Reset" button located in the top-right action menu of that specific page.

If you want to completely erase all your data (Favorites, Lab, Scores, Flashcards) and start fresh, go to the Settings page and click the red "Delete All Data" button in the Danger Zone.
